The editorial cartoons of Matt Davies

Untitled

And now for my inaugural entry into blogland…(I hate the word “blog”, don’t you?)
My aim is to pry the lid off the process and hardships that a newspaper editorial cartoonist encounters on deadline every day, and share it with whomever cares.

Cartooning looks really easy…Everybody thinks they have an idea for a cartoon.
The best cartoonists should make it look easy. But there’s a lot of reading, thinking, sketching, pacing, writing and coffee that goes into whittling down a host of complex thoughts, analysis and ideas into that simple little drawing. Cartoons are 98% idea and 2% drawing. It’s waaaay easier to write a thousand words, than just two or three.

Whether you agree or disagree with my viewpoint, I hope I can pull back the curtain enough to pique your interest.
