This cartoon was drawn in response to a local “murder”:http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070511/NEWS02/705110402 the circumstance of which exposes a sinister – but familiar – undercurrent in our society, shared by both those who want to kick out illegal immigrant laborers, and those who hire them because they’re cheap. We should show compassion for our fellow human beings, regardless of their status.

Matt,
You could have substituted an aborted baby for your immigrant worker and really made a statement about “compassion for our fellow human beings, regardless of their status” !

Well Said! Can’t the Journal News be something other than a mini New York Times. Matt, it’s no surprise your from one of the hot beds of European Socialism like London. Other human beings we should be compassionate about are the Iraqi people. The Drive by Media like you are salivating at the prospect of the US military leaving Iraq just like Vietnam. You are invested in our defeat. Study a bit of history and you will know that over 4 million people died due to our withdrawal from Vietnam.
A little more history and you will know that we should never have gotten involved in Vietnam (in the way we did) in the first place. (Truman could’ve not rebuffed Ho Chi Minh’s request for support of Vietnamese independence, but, hey, HCM hung with the Communist crowd. Our country’s monolithic view of Communism got us mixed up in Vietnam.)
Also, does any country want to have foreign troops stationed in it? The Vietnamese sure didn’t want the Japanese or French there.
(Ok, Vatican City has its Swiss Guard, I’ll give you that.)
Richard
The Iraqi government has recently expressed their total desire to have us stay in Iraq. The Iraqi people in numerous polls express the same. Besides your answer is irrelevant as it does not address the problems that occur with our leaving. You may see America as imperialistic – I see it as a cause of change for democracy in the world – especially the Middle East
