(Truman could've _not_ rebuffed Ho Chi Minh's request for support of Vietnamese independence, but, hey, HCM hung with the Communist crowd. Our country's monolithic view of Communism got us mixed up in Vietnam.) Also, does any country want to have foreign troops stationed in it? The Vietnamese sure didn't want the Japanese or French there. (Ok, Vatican City has its Swiss Guard, I'll give you that.)
