amusement park?
I’ll probably catch some flak for this cartoon, but something is very wrong over at our local amusement park – Rye Playland – which tragically suffered its fourth accidental death last week (third on a ride) since 2004. A 21 year old woman was killed this time while operating a ride called the Mind Scrambler, the very same ride that killed a seven year old child a few years ago. I’ve always been somewhat wary of stuff that has been bolted together by other humans with the express purpose of tossing people around at great heights and/or speed. There should be a huge redundancy of safety procedures when it comes to heavy industrial machinery – which is all an amusement ride is. Playland is now statistically unique in its grisly three year safety record, but unfortunately it is not unique in simply having accidents. Take a look at this website and it’ll make your toenails curl.

The Monster Mouse and Hell Hole were the 2 best rides when i was a kid. 90 degree turns on the MM. now they changed it and it looks like a mouse. ugh
accidents will happen. when my mom was younger she was in coney island , when a body fell in front of her that fell out of the cyclone. brains and guts everywhere. Accidents will happen. what about 6 flags that girl/woman getting her feet cut off .. thats grisly if you ask me.

I remember my mom sat on a piece of glass on a ride at The New York Worlds Fair . An ambulance rushed her to a makeshift emergency room on the grounds. Nothing serious. My brother and I still joke that the ambulance ride was the most exciting one at the park.(With the possible exception of Lloyd Bridges Sea Hunt.) Thank God she wasn't hurt seriously .Back then the idea of getting killed or hurt at an amusement park was unheard of. Why can't they get it right now?
Back then the idea of getting killed or hurt at an amusement park was unheard of.
I disagree. Back then, I think the idea of suing after getting killed or injured was unheard of. Or, you took the settlement and that was that. Shhh!
Yes, suing was unheard of back then. But I don't recall a park going through a series of mishaps the way Playland has recently.
Yeah, accidents happen. But four horrific, fatal incidents in three years in one small park start to feel less like accidents, and more like the product of a culture of sheer negligence.
Remind me: Why is the county government in the business of running an amusement park again?
I assume it was to make money, not kill people. If it keeps up at this rate they should charge people to come in, take a seat, and just wait for a catastrophe to happen. Kind of like NASCAR.
Matt is a complete knob head for drawing this, who is he for criticizing a national historic landmark. Go back to England you limey redcoat.
