"The Polish plumber" is now ubiquitous (and a pejorative term) in the new EU. England has a special problem - as does France - in that they are reaping the rewards of their colonial pasts, and now have vast (mostly legal) underclasses of socially repressed SE Asian muslims who have learned to romanticize the Al Qaeda Jihadi. That makes our immigration problem seem mild in comparison. When I was a kid, people (even some grownups I knew) used to be mean about Pakistanis in England - And I knew it was wrong, even then. First generation Pakistanis went to the UK to work their butts off, keep their heads down and make money. It's their kids, the second generation that had to go to school and get beat up and called names which has resulted in a vast cultural misanthropy. I've looked everywhere for that statistic and can't find anything to corroborate that. Being opposed to illegal immigration isn't a bad thing - I'm opposed to it myself - I just don't like the way some people cloak their provincial and irrational xenophobias with opposition to "illegal" immigration, when what they really are saying is they hate Mexican/Latino immigrants - And perhaps one long-time British immigrant...
