Health care would get a lot cheaper in this country if only we'd go about it in an intelligent manner. In many other countries, health care focuses of preventative medicine whereas the US health care paradigm focuses of crisis medicine. By nipping a health problem in the bud through implementation of a few cheap solutions with preventative medicine, one can avoid the massive costs of the radical procedures and powerful medicines of crisis medicine. If the US were to get smart and switch to a national health care policy and at the same time switch focus to preventative medicine, a lot of money would wind up being saved for all.

Matt,

I did consider that you MIGHT be considering an ironic relationship. Glad to see see that you believe the "No Child Left Behind" is a success. That's the first positive comment regarding a Bush program that I recall. Isnt that Ironic!

Agreed. Tells you what kind of world we live in when money

If the Journal News did not make a profit you would not get paid. I know health care is important but like anything else
in this country it is a business and it's always profits
before people. I can't tell you how many times i've been
down sized.

Right. I totally agree. I am a fan - and beneficiary - of capitalism. It tends to seek the shortest and most efficient route to profit and results. But I think it gets tricky when profit is the motive for providing (astonishingly expensive) care that is designed to prolong/save lives of the sick. I genuinely believe that health care should be provided as unquestioningly as national defense.

Besides, it is one thing to profit from baseball ticket sales - Quite another to seek profit from others' illness.

I hear you matt. However, Capitalism and profit is the
American way regardless of what business you're in. Think of
Baseball like Insurance. The seats are so expensive that not
everyone can afford to go to the games. The actual fans are
left out. Does anybody care? NO!It's what the market can bare. I know it sucks all around.

Wondering:

This cartoon employs something we call "Irony." The kid can do the math in the second panel....

XBulldog:
Our health system is designed primarily to create profit for insurance companies. Period.
Ask any doctor you know. And if you get a health insurance flack off the record - They'll smile and agree.

No I don't Lamb. I know how it will work though. Those of us
who are paying for Insurance now will continue to pay while
those who don't will get it for free. Either that or they will go by income which is B.S. - If everybody pays the same
or everybody gets it for free i'm all for it. You and I know
that won't happen and some how the middle class will get
screwed.
