Clintonitis

I haven’t had much time to write comments with my cartoons lately (which is almost certainly for the best) as we have been up to our eyebrows in construction back at the house, and just to ice the cake, my wife is due any minute now with our third child! (Because, as everyone knows, construction and new babies are a wonderful and relaxing mix…)

As for the cartoon? Probably the one thing that will trip up Hillary is the perception of impropriety in fundraising. The Clinton’s already have a big red self-inflicted flag next to their names left over from the ‘96 fundraising flap. Not a politically unusual state of affairs in the grand scheme of things, but to the people out there who can’t stand the Clintons, the Norman Hsu fundraising gaffe is being fanned as a scandal and once again plays right into the hands of those that will do anything to stop Hillary’s bid for the presidency. Her giving the money back is simply a tardy gesture at this point.

I suppose the old saying that a woman has to be twice as good as men to be considered their equal applies to political fundraising ethics also.

Can you think of any candidate that lost the election
due to a fundraising flap? That would be like refusing to feed the pigs because they oink.

Very good Matt. It's great to see a bit of balance here by
bashing a left winger like hillary. You usually don't do that. Are you having a boy or a girl? Maybe you did it the
old fashion way like I did and just waited to see.

    ball:
A general election, no…But a crowded primary, perhaps.

    X Bulldog:
I used to be really tough on the Clintons back when they ruled the White House – Even though obviously my politics are more closely aligned with theirs (kind of). I don't trust ANY politician however. Not because politicians are bad people, but because they can't possibly deliver everything they promise in order to get elected.

As far as the new baby? I have no idea if it's a boy or girl. I'm old school like you and love surprises! I'll let you know as soon as I know, though.

o.k. Matt good luck. Can't wait until you hand out cigars.
    (only kidding)

Our soldiers are for the war, I really dread the thought of Hillary becoming President. That's one job that should stay male. The democratic winner would do no less then what is being done right now. I'm proud to have a son & daughter in the Army, one grandson in the Army, one grandson in the Navy, & one grand-daughter in the Air Force. My son spent 12 months in Ambar Province & he is paying the penalty mentally, it's not pretty. Don't show your true colors too often! BYE

Very Good, I like the caption “AcHilles Heels. Even tough the mishap did come up, she did recover enough to not echo the perception from ’96. Amazing she is still the front runner.

Btw, you’re a great political cartoonist keep up the good work
    Wish you the best,
    Johan

Whats wrong with handing out cigars? Matt could do it
in one of his cartoons. This way we could all enjoy a healthy , safe and symbolic smoke while we congratulate him.

  9. ball

Matt, even in a crowded primary, do you really think

the Hillary Express is going to be derailed by a fundraising flap?

  10. Matt Davies

You know what Ball…I think it could. There are zillions of Americans out there who are suspicious of Hillary, and even the slightest whiff of impropriety could light a fuse of mistrust that given time (and the huge, well funded and organized anti-Hillary factions) could result in fireworks. I hope that's not true, as her predicament is just a symptom of the overall problem with the current insane campaign fundraising requirements for higher office. In order to be even just a "front-runner," you have to unabashedly harvest cash at the rate of a Hedge Fund manager.

It sounds like it killed this Davies guy to draw a cartoon about his hero Hillary. He almost sounds sorry for doing it. don't worry davies, the democratic party wont consider you a traitor for that one cartoon. By the way, how could anyone be suspicious of Hillary?! She is the picture of authenticity and honesty.
