Matt Davis said this was about vetoing the SChip for the poor kids, not so...he vetoed it because it was covering the middle class kids. Get your facts straight.

To X Bulldog,
As for why don't I leave the country? Well, what is the point of seeing an injustice and doing nothing to help address it? What good can come on noticing that something is broken, and just leave without trying to fix it?
Simply put, I believe that this country can be great for everyone living in it, and it can become as such nonviolently. To leave it behind and take refuge in the relative calm of Scandinavia would be morally indefensible. So I stay and piss political centrists and conservatives off, because a paradigm unchallenged is a dangerous thing.

But Matty , we do have a perfect image. Why don't you come clean and tell your readers that you are actually Alfred Neumann of MAD magazine, just grown up to the 21 year old era. The resemblance is perfect and no one would question the transformation either. Even your cartoons take on a very SPY vs SPY similarity. Has the legal department revieved that copyright problem?

Hey, I love political debates.

In case you were wondering, "wondering." If I was, as you say, full of myself, I probably wouldn't post in my own comments section - I know that many other cartoonists will stay out of the fray on their blogs. Please, if you have something to say (which obviously, you do), ditch the snippy insults and I will "give your point more than a second of thought." I genuinely appreciate hearing from people who disagree with me, so long as they respect themselves enough to let the merit of their arguments speak. I have conservative friends with whom I engage in stimulating and thoughtful political discussions. We often disagree, sometimes find common ground, but we NEVER resort to petty insults. That just means someone has run out of ammo.

I know that, as a cartoonist, images can really tick people off, (way more than just words) so I understand that some people here click on the "post comment" section in anger. That's okay. However, if you want really want to give me a piece of your mind (and actually want me to read it) put down the verbal machetes and play a little chess instead.

BTW - The "little boy" comment at the beggining made me chuckle, as I am 41 years old. You should see the look on people's faces when I show up for speaking engagements. I guess I have the good fortune of not quite matching the image of what people imagine a political cartoonist should look like. Oh well.

Ooh. Fiery debate! Cool...

I love this cartoon - it's cute, funny and it gets its point across. You may or may not support that point (pinning my colours to the mast here, I do agree with it), but it does it well.

You want the truth?
You can't handle the...
Err.. Sorry, that meant to say you can't HAVE the truth! While we can argue that all reporting is tainted by some form of bias, and that truth is subjective, we should remember that editorial cartoons appear in the *OP/ED* section of the press for that very reason - they are OPINION.

Do you want to view an anodyne, even handed cartoon every day? Then get someone to sketch a photograph. It will achieve nothing.

I am interested in Toaster's NAFTA point - yes, it steers the conversation away from the intitial point, but it has some validity - can we really disagree that (assuming the comment to be accurate) the ensuing migration of industry and labour has no effect upon the issue at hand?

X Bulldog, I don't notice any anger in Toaster's last post - s/he find's it funny (not infuriating) which I personally take to mean s/he has a sense of irony at the hypocrisy. By making the point s/he does not state that it is what s/he believes, but levelling it as an interesting counterpoint to the anti-immigrant rhetoric. To be fair, anger is more often noticeable in your posts! (To also be fair, while you like a good rant, I applaud your ability to support a well made point by your 'opponents')

"The pride of trolls" LMAO! Yes, enough on the subject of angry people - I'll not go there.
But I wonder, is a pride the correct collective noun for trolls? Perhaps it should be 'rockery'?

And finally, Matt, I'm very sorry for not having been in touch - new PC, not got my old address book back yet so lost your email for now - most importantly, congratulations to you and yours on you new baby. May you all live in times just intereting enough to keep you in cartoon material, without being TOO 'interesting'!

"Toaster" you seem to be angry about white Europeans taking
Indian land by force. Why would you ever want to stay in a
country that has done this? There is a strong movement to
take back the southwest part of this country by mexican
rebels called "the nation of Atzlan". It does exist and they have stated that mexico will take this land back without firing a shot. Look around. It is happening. "Allison" what you have just described is the middle class in America who constantly gets screwed. I am in that very position. "Wondering" what is your stance on
Illegal Aliens who have broken our laws by just being here?
I know the stance our wonderful president has taken on this
Issue. Break our laws and get rewarded. "Matt" i don't always agree with your cartoons but this one I do. The only
trouble I have with it is it should reflect all children not
just poor ones.

Toaster, you also have a wild imagination. I did not express an opinion one way or the other about illegals. I commented that Bulldog and others turned this into an "illegals" discussion. Matty seems to think I missed his point where as he didnt give my point more than a second of thought and he missed my point. I find that usually happens with people that are full of themselves.
