On shaky ground.

I already caught a wee bit of flak for this one today – And perhaps it is a little early for finger pointing, but that’s what editorial cartooning is for, right?
It’s awful what is happening in California. But the Santa Ana winds are famous for whipping small brush fires into large scrub fires in the hills. They used to light control fires there to clear out the brush in order to prevent exactly what is happening now. Except they can’t light the control fires anymore, because of an explosion of human development. For developers to add tinder (and home equity) to the mix is to ignore the inevitable. Just like those who build houses on sand bars and in flood zones. You can’t mess with Mother Nature.

I agree. I wish more people would pay attention to the fact that Mother Nature will always be in charge, and to respect that, and then there would be less disastrous results when things like this do occur. Sad.
