The official "abuse me" license.

103007davies.jpg

I thought Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s outrageously bold plan to allow undocumented aliens (AKA: “people”) to obtain driver’s licenses was constitutionally correct, albeit politically impossible. So after consulting with Michael Chertoff over at “Homeland Security” (what an inane name for a department), Spitzer ditched his plan and agreed to a three-tiered State licensing system. The top two federally recognized tiers requiring SS#s etc, with a third class of license bringing up the rear, which requires no visa, documentation or SS# and will be the defacto “illegal alien” license – Which ensures that anybody here illegally will be terrified to apply, thereby announcing to the world their legal status.

Besides, you can already get a license with no SS# or supporting documentation. It’s called a fake ID.

Since when is a driver's license supposed to be a proof of citizenship, anyway? I had always thought that it was merely an indication of rudimentary driving skills, and sort-of proof of age/identity. That's why, when applying for a passport, you can't send in your driver's license as "proof" of citizenship—the feds want to see your birth certificate or naturalization papers.

Also, since when do you have to prove your citizenship in order to board a domestic flight?

This whole dust-up is so stooopid!

    P.S.: Keep 'em coming, Matt!

"I had always thought that it was merely an indication of rudimentary driving skills"

LOL – If only that were true. Based on the complete lack of driving skills, knowledge of rules & basic courtesy around here, It seems if you can sit still long enough for a photo to be taken down at the DMV, they give you a driver's license. I think THAT is a much bigger issue (and threat to our security) than any immigration problems. Actually, I'm only half-joking. Look at the horrific statistics of allowing incompetence behind the wheel…

  3. X BULLDOG

Matt(aka people)? How about (aka criminals)? All this does is
once again reward criminal aliens. Why don't you tell me which laws we should enforce and which ones we shouldn't since you don't want our immigration laws enforced. You say
that these licenses will expose them. Shouldn't they be? Do
you feel we should not expose child molesters either? Maybe
we shouldn't post anymore where they live. I'm shocked.
Many of these people you refer to are involved in other criminal activity. Would you at least agree that when they are EXPOSED we should at least deport them? When I first got
my drivers License i had to take a road test.
Maybe we should bypass that part for all of these illegals and just give them the license. shheeesh.

  4. ixat

    How about (aka criminals)?

OK… but as far as crimes against America go, trying to make a half-decent living through hard work should be fairly low on the list, shouldn't it? More akin to downloading mp3's than raping children.

  5. McGriff

ixat is right in pointing out the black-and-white thinking of some people, where nuance does not exist, traps them into these all-or-nothing positions. There is either nothing wrong or the sky is falling; no in-betweens.

  6. X BULLDOG

I understand what you are saying Ixat and Mcgriff but it is
really black and white. Many of these people don't pay taxes and are involved in other crimes such as mentioned before rape. There is something to say for hard work. Guess
what? I work real hard also. My question to the both of you
is what laws can I break and get only sympathy and not punishment for and what taxes do I not have to pay so I can
have a better quality of life for me and my family? I don't
make alot of money for this part of the country so I struggle also but have to go by the book of which these people do not have to.

  7. McGriff

If you are struggling financially, then sending illegal immigrants back across the border will only make your life more miserable because prices of most goods and services will increase. And it's odd that you only see illegal immigrants as criminals without acknowleding all the good things they do. This is more of that tunnel vision. Illegal immigrants do not come here to break the law. They come here illegally because they know no other way or there is too much red tape. We should be building bridges to those who want to come here and participate in this great country instead of building walls. Immigration is what America is founded on.

  8. X BULLDOG

Many goods and services i use today are imported Mcgriff.
Not made here by immigrants. Many do come here to work but
many more are involved in criminal activity as well. Coming
in illegally is the only way they can? seems to me you believe in illegal activity yourself. America has always been a nation of immigrants is correct but has been done in an orderly fashion not an unmanaged tidal wave. Overall
Illegal immigration is a liability not an asset. You and i
are a world apart on this one buddy. Voting for Hillary?

  9. X BULLDOG

Oh Mcgriff you didn't answer my questions. Which laws can I
break and get amnesty and which taxes do I not have to pay
    to better my life?

  10. DisasterMan

WOAH! Many illigals work but MANY MORE are criminals? Anyone got statistics to back that one up?

Many Americans work, but some of them are criminals too…

Ok, here's how to upset many Americans in one go:

An illegal immigrant comes to the US, works illegally in a minimum wage job, and, because he can't get a social scurity number, which he would love to have, doesn't pay a couple of thousand dollars in tax every year.

He works cleaning the floors in a major 'American' corporation, which, through a variety of means, including offloading ownership of assets through networks of offshore companies, avoids paying millions in corporate tax every year, bolstered by certain tax cuts ostensibly given to 'boost the economy', while the multi-million dollar salaried execs at the top do exactly the same with their personal wealth.
The company lays off thousands of US workers in efficiency drives, outsourcing the jobs to foreign countries, while its investment arm buys up and asset strips smaller companies, putting yet more Americans out of work.

    Who does America more harm?

Some people say that it suits certain interests to have struggling Americans blame their woes on illegal immigrants, and to pay no attention to the behaviour of the people who really pay their wages and set the prices they have to pay for goods and services.

Ever feel like you've been used?

Answers on the back of a postcard please…

  11. X BULLDOG

You don't need statistics disasterman just read the paper everyday to see the daily crime. Just being here Illegally
is a crime and not paying taxes from working off the books
is tax evasion which is also a crime. See what I mean? You are correct about corp execs. getting rich off of these people. While this is happening the rest of us pay for their
social services. Emergency room visits, school for their kids
and much more. I've been laid off 6 times in my life and don't blame it on immigrants but if you think overall that Illegal immigration is an asset and not a liability you are
    wrong.

  12. Richard Tjoa

The whole reason why we were first asked to supply Social Security numbers to the DMV was to crackdown on "deadbeat dads," which I think is the stupidest reason ever.

I support a "no ssn" requirement for a driver license because of this, alone. Why the heck should the DMV have my SSN?

  13. McGriff

    Hey Bull,

I think you are missing my point about your black-and-white thinking. I can't answer your questions. It's futile. You are lost in your little narrow universe of black-and-white. I can't change your mind or make you see. You are physically incapable. And I don't mean to be smug or hurtful. You are who you are and, in fact, you share many of the same traits with the current leader of the free world. I guess what I'm saying is that you could easily be president of the Unites States of America one day. So, as you can see, my calling you narrow-minded is quite the compliment.

  14. DisasterMan

    Hi Bulldog,

Just read the paper? Oh yeah, that's right, cos for every sensationalist crime report, newspapers print thousands of stories saying "Today, an illegal immigrant went to work, earned a pittance of a days wages and continued to quietly support the economy of the United States by spending those wages on American goods and services (on which taxes are paid) while sending home money that enables his/her dependants to raise themselves out of grinding poverty."!

Sorry to resort to sarcasm (ok, let's be honest, not really, I love sarcasm!) but you can't rely on newspapers and news stories to give an accurate picture of the world – it's a snapshot, and, to extend the metaphor, the camera DOES lie – the image you see may be true in and of itself, but it tells you nothing of what happens outside the frame, or before or after the snapshot was taken, and that doesn't even take into account whether the shot has been photoshopped! And it tells you nothing of why the cameraman chose to take that photograph, rather than looking across the street for a different image.

Why would governments and NGO's spend millions of dollars and man hours on in-depth studies if all they needed to do was read the papers?

Now, this whole view of 'just look at the papers' is often used as justification for one point of view or another, and I find it frustrating (this isn't in direct response to Bulldog btw) that public opinion is formed and manipulated through the media for the agenda of certain, generally powerful interests, who then cry foul when the public, or sections of the media fail to report things as they would like – "But you aren't telling any of the GOOD news coming out of Iraq!" is just one example (and admittedly partisan, I'm not claiming this is just one way traffic).

I truly sympathise with your situation Bulldog, but I also believe you are being manipulated to point the finger of blame in the wrong place.
It is an acknowledged, documented practice to distract the public by demonising another section of the populace in order to obfuscate the REAL problems, and has been used by many regimes, time and time again in the history of civilisation – ever hear of that gang of good time guys, the Nazis?
I do not deny that immigration (both legal and illegal – look at the massive influx of new Europeans into the UK labour market) brings with it challenges and very real problems, but we should not be blind to the benefits, or neutral effects, that come with it.

  15. X BULLDOG

Agreed Richard. The DMV should not have your SS# – for the purpose stated only child welfare should have it.

Come on Mcgriff, my questions are very logical since many of
these people are breaking the law,not paying taxes and getting away with it. You just don't have an answer. I don't
share any traits with our president at all but you actually
do. Bush is for amnesty for these Illegals of which you are
also and I am not. You have more in common with this bum
than I do. Don't worry my good man just vote for Hillary.
If she gets in you won't need any bridges to allow these people to come the borders will be wide open. 7.5 million
people just signed up around the world for the annual immigration lottery. Only 50,000 are excepted. When the
borders open up it will be a tidal wave of third world uneducated people that you and I will have to take care of.
Just remember over population ruins everything that is why half the world wants to come here because their countries
have so many people any opportunity is gone. The rest of
this can be discussed over an ice cold beer. I'm buying.
I'm willing to let you open my narrow mind.

  16. X BULLDOG

Actually Disasterman most newspapers are left wing liberal
and are in favor of illegal immigration and do not print
all the crimes that are being done by illegal immigrants.
They print only a handful. Imagine if they printed all of them? Remember we are talking about ILLEGAL aliens here. Just like Mcgriff I'd like to know what you think our saturation point is with immigration. I think there are to
many people now.Should we continue until we have a billion
people? more people more problems. I know there are benefits
with immigration, all i'm asking is have it done in an organized and manageable fashion. Not like it is now. We don't even know who 20 million people are here.Lastly Everybody wants fairness. I do also. All i ask is that everybody do it the way I have to. I don't make alot of money
but pay for many benefits people get that I don't. Just do it the way I have to. No social services,Pay taxes and pay full price for everything. Now that's fair. If you diagree I just don't see it. Anyway as I told Mcgriff the beers are on me and i'd be very interested in more of your comments
and you can throw all the sarcasim at me you wan't. I'm not
as narrow minded as you might think.

  17. X BULLDOG

Do both of you really think we should give licenses to
someone who should not be here? I just don't see rewarding
anyone who's first act on American soil is to break the law.

  18. Matt Davies

(quote) – X Bulldog: "My question to the both of you is what laws can I break and get only sympathy and not punishment for?"

Apparently, we can "waterboard" someone. I'm sure there's more..

  19. X BULLDOG

You didn't answer my other question Matt.Since you don't
want our immigration laws enforced what other laws should
    we not enforce?

  20. McGriff

Illegal immigrants are not here to be criminals like you seem to think. They are here to better themselves in the world's greatest country. The fact that many are here illegally says more about the red tape of the U.S. than the immigrant. We need to build more bridges, not walls, because immigrants are the lifeblood of this nation. If we make it easier for those who want to work to get in this country, then we would have more people paying taxes, more people helping to pay for their health insurance, more people taking care of themselves, more people participating in the system instead of out of the system. Less illegals.

But all of this is not the problem you think it is. It's just the latest hype and spin from the Limbaughs, Hannitys, Dobbs, O'Reillys, etc. that live to pour inane hateful prattle into the heads of their loyal empty-headed followers. It's more in the vein of gay marriage. Not a problem. But I'll tell you what would be a problem: rounding up millions of illegal immigrants and sending them back home. This economy would collapse. But I don't think you can see that because you are a black-and-white thinker, the same kind of thinking that thought invading Iraq was a slam-dunk. You are missing the nuance in this issue and you always will.

  21. X BULLDOG

Again I ask if we build these bridges how many should we let
in? a Billion? Where's the cut off point? We can't possibly
absorb the numbers you are talking about. Even if we legalized all the illegals it would still be a problem. There is 2 sides to the coin. We are not getting many doctors or scientists here we are getting third world uneducated and unskilled people who would still be a burden
to our social service system. Since they come here to work
you would have to agree then no more social services. Pull your weight like I have to. If all the illegals went home
today the economy would not collapse. This was proven during
"a day without an immigrant" protest when nothing happened.
Even if the economy did suffer it wouldn't be long before it
    rebounded.
