Me, me and, I'm sorry to say, also me.
I had several people tell me they were listening to NPR’s Fresh Air the other day, when they heard this which I think is pretty cool – Click on the link to hear it. Thanks Geoff Nunberg for mentioning me by name.
And while I’m at it, I wanted to let anybody who cares know that I will be appearing in Washington DC at 7:30 PM on Thursday February 7th at the National Archives on a panel about er, cartooning I hope, with Pat Oliphant, Ann Telnaes, and Clay Bennett. I’m a big fan of all of them, and frankly wish I was just going to be sitting in the audience…
I will also be speaking on another panel with some great cartoonists at Columbia University on Monday February 18th (8PM, I think) which will include Jimmy Margulies of the Bergen Record, Adam Zyglis of The Buffalo News and M.E. (Mark) Cohen who is a freelance creator based in New Jersey.
On another note, (just to see who’s paying attention) I would love to get your opinion on the star rating poll thingy here on the blog. (60,000 page views over the last week, and what, ten or fifteen votes total?!) Perhaps you have spoken after all – But you think I should just ditch it? Or should it stay? I’m listening…

(9 votes, average: 4 out of 5)
The star rating thingy is small and easy to overlook. Make it bigger and more prominent and you will get more people voting.
I'd give this post 10 stars if I could.
MATT
you are the best; star system or not!!!!

Dump the ratings. If people want to give you feedback, let them write something.
If you find the ratings useful, Matt, then keep them in. As for me, I don't pay much attention to them. (I still rate them in any case)
What I do miss, though, are your own comments. Just the few sentences you write add to my apprection of your work. No phoney compliments, I love your stuff!
How's your shoulder doing?
i think there are two problems with the ratings. the rating criteria is pretty vague and the same cartoon rating system is used for non-cartoon posts.
i am sure some people give a cartoon five stars if they agree with the opinion regardless of how good the cartoon may be otherwise. others may be just into funny cartoons and think yours just aren't as good as beetle bailey. so, i wonder how useful the ratings could be for you in this form.
i am sure you considered it but it seems to me labeling the ratings might make them more relevant. for instance: "5 stars – i laughed so hard i changed my political affiliation"
if you do keep the star ratings as they are, i would say leave them off of non-cartoon posts like this one. otherwise, it seems we are rating your blogging skills.
I'm not sure how much control I have over the ratings system. It does seem to be rather a blunt instrument and I think it may be all or nothing in terms of what posts I can put a star rating on, but I'll look into it. Also, I have to confess, I really just put it in there more for entertainment value than for its statistical usefulness. I am a sucker for entertainment.
Thanks for all your feedback though…I really appreciate it a lot.
Hey Matt – Seems like the star system is fine – gives viewers an opportunity to participate without making a formal blog entry, which is probably more comfortable for many.
Looking forward to seeing you in DC – do I need a ticket, or can I just show up?
Sorry that I am a bit late in responding to this important quandary. I for one can not believe what I am reading. You mean to tell me that after taking time out of my busy day to read your work, then laugh, then think and then think some more. You expect me to take an aditional .7 seconds to click on a star and give you some much deserved feedback. Who the hell do you think you are?!!
is it possible to put a cartoon on various home pages every day( like msn)?
