Sorry that I am a bit late in responding to this important quandary. I for one can not believe what I am reading. You mean to tell me that after taking time out of my busy day to read your work, then laugh, then think and then think some more. You expect me to take an aditional .7 seconds to click on a star and give you some much deserved feedback. Who the hell do you think you are?!!

Hey Matt – Seems like the star system is fine – gives viewers an opportunity to participate without making a formal blog entry, which is probably more comfortable for many.
Looking forward to seeing you in DC – do I need a ticket, or can I just show up?

I'm not sure how much control I have over the ratings system. It does seem to be rather a blunt instrument and I think it may be all or nothing in terms of what posts I can put a star rating on, but I'll look into it. Also, I have to confess, I really just put it in there more for entertainment value than for its statistical usefulness. I am a sucker for entertainment.

i think there are two problems with the ratings. the rating criteria is pretty vague and the same cartoon rating system is used for non-cartoon posts.

i am sure some people give a cartoon five stars if they agree with the opinion regardless of how good the cartoon may be otherwise. others may be just into funny cartoons and think yours just aren't as good as beetle bailey. so, i wonder how useful the ratings could be for you in this form.

i am sure you considered it but it seems to me labeling the ratings might make them more relevant. for instance: "5 stars – i laughed so hard i changed my political affiliation"

if you do keep the star ratings as they are, i would say leave them off of non-cartoon posts like this one. otherwise, it seems we are rating your blogging skills.

If you find the ratings useful, Matt, then keep them in. As for me, I don't pay much attention to them. (I still rate them in any case)

What I do miss, though, are your own comments. Just the few sentences you write add to my apprection of your work. No phoney compliments, I love your stuff!

The star rating thingy is small and easy to overlook. Make it bigger and more prominent and you will get more people voting.
