Your editor made the right call, in my opinion. The one published requires a moment’s thought. It’s more subtle, as one other commenter noted.

It shows pretty clear desperation for the party to have to play the minority card and the gender card at the same time to try to win an election. Both of them are socialists and here’s the big shocker: AMERICA DOES NOT WANT SOCIALISM! Period! No means no!

I prefer the first. Its focus is more on the voters’ dilemma…how do you choose, and how awesome is it we have this kind of choice?

You left out the straight-ahead “find some way to screw it up and get trounced by Republicans.”

The first one might go over too many people’s heads, but the second one would probably have people going nuts over “black” vs. “African American.” (And I suspect is the reason why your editor chose the first one.)

Hrm…I probably would have picked the one that didn’t have a donkey climbing mountains that look like boobs.

That said, I prefer the metaphor of two pathways instead of the peaks…once the choice is made, the journey (and difficulties incurred by that choice) will hardly be over.
