I don’t get it.
now THAT”S FUNNY…and yes I chuckled…
It deserves 5 stars…
putnam, it seems to be saying, just like trying to install democracy in iraq, barack obama’s campaign to be the first black man to win the presidency and span such a great racial divide in one giant step may seem naive but, for someone who cares about the country’s future, it was something worth trying. and, though it seems to the casual viewer of the cartoon that the situation is grim, in fact, mr. obama has actually put himself in a position to ultimately achieve the goal.
i am not sure about the irony of obama not understanding the parallel though.
Because it would clearly make more sense for someone relying on the youth vote, money from wealthy, intellectual liberals, and an image as a partisan of change to play race the old fashioned way.
Matt,
Provocative…or should be.
Come on people, where’s the debate about race this cartoon should be provoking? No indignation? No feelings trampled on or ideals muddied?
Great cartoon, Matt.
Readers: boring, boring, boring…
I don’t think this cartoon works.
I don’t hear Obama saying that he think he himself will span the divide. Instead I hear him calling the country to move ahead more together on this and other issues.
Yes, if he is elected, it will be historic but does that election itself span the divide? Don’t think so. Don’t think he thinks so either.
I don’t think the parallel works. Love (almost) all of Davies other work.
This one misses.
