It takes a simple mind to equate less violence in Iraq with "winning" the war. Turn off the talk radio station, switch off Fox News, buy a good weekly news magazine and a couple newspapers not owned by Murdoch and educate yourself on this situation. It's critical for this country that you do. It's not the bad guys against the good guys like you think.

Five years after the initial invasion, I'm still waiting for the administration to define just what "winning" entails. That is, how will we know when we have won?

The escalation (let's call it by it's real name) was supposed to bring political stability to Iraq, as I remember -- so, how it this "working"?

We're not at war with Iraq. So not sure what the overly-emotional talk of "defeat" and "retreat" is referencing.
Democrats who talk about "getting the troops out" are being equally irresponsible and lazy with their language. Iraq is now in the throes of a humanitarian crisis that is spiraling into civil war. Our "surge" merely postponed an inevitable (and bloody) three way split of the country. Because the US is a country with a conscience, we will be there both physically and financially in some capacity providing humanitarian assistance for the rest of our lifetimes. There will be no "withdrawal" or "defeat" or even "retreat." No matter what one chooses to name the action, we are stuck. And it's okay for those of us who questioned the erroneous premise of an Iraq invasion in the first place to be mad about it.

Holy crappers. Facts on the ground show huge improvement since the surge. It's the Dems ideology of bushhate that has them ignoring facts and pursuing retreat and defeat despite the new direction.
