The Legal Slam Dunk
Weird…I just noticed I’ve been drawing a lot of people airborne lately. I’m sure a psychologist would have a field day with that.
So. Yonkers Police again. There’s a video tape of a burly Yonkers police officer violently throwing a small woman (44 year-old Irma Marquez) to the ground in a bizarre WWF move. The photos of her injuries are shocking. Marquez looks as if she was in a horrible car wreck. The other cops present went on record as saying excessive force was used. I highly recommend you watch the video before passing judgment, but bear in mind that DA Janet DiFiore’s office slapped the woman with a resisting arrest charge after she was slammed to the ground, even though they must have seen the tape. Obviously, my cartoon shows how I feel about that.

Yes, you need to lay down on a couch and talk about it for a while. Did your father play catch with you as a kid?
Took me a moment to remember what "WWF" was. God, I'm stupid today.
I needed a laugh about how this case was handled, but it is still an outrage. Janet DiFiore prosecuted the victim, not the perpetrator. Now she refuses to address badly this was handled, by both her and her staff (she personally spoke to the woman's attorney before the trial). Meanwhile, the feds have decided to bring civil rights charges against the police officer, so at least someone thinks his actions were criminal. DiFiore's office has done nothing to correct the injustice they created—Someone should be investigating the DA's office on this.
It is inconceivable to me how two separate government authorities with the same mandate to uphold the Constitution, can handle a case so differently. The Westchester Da in her infinite wisdom thought it would be proper to prosecute the "victim" and the Federal government decided it would properly charge the "perpetrator." Janet Difiore and whoever else was involved in this case should be ashamed of themselves. Perhaps the Justice Department should be looking at her instead.
