The real opening ceremonies were breathtaking. No other word for it. China considers its hosting of the Olympics to be a true honor, and it shows. It’s amazing what an authoritarian regime can get its people to do!!
Speaking of which, did anyone see our great leader schlumping in his dignatary’s chair, checking his watch during the ceremony? It’s okay, Mr President. According to polls that’s pretty much how most Americans feel about your final few months in office…

Hi, Nit Picky me here… The crank is misplaced; it should be “facing the outside of the can.” (The can opener should be pictured on the “back” of the can.)
Then again, from a plausibility standpoint: I do wonder when the last time Mr. Bush opened a can…
Dammit. You are right. Though at this point, I am simply glad it is recognizable as a can opener!

Private Eye (satirical/political UK magazine) has a special weekly column called “Pedant’s Corner” just for such nit-pickery (Yeah, it is a word – well, it is now!) For a long time their biggest topic was where and whether the apostrophe should be placed in the column’s name.
They ended the debate by changing the name to Pedantry Corner.
(Doh. Had to correct my spelling of apostrophe twice before I got it right…)
