Redistributing Wealth

October
22

The last-ditch effort to terrify voters about looming socialism can only appeal to voters of marginal systemic awareness. The USA is already one of the most socialist countries in the world. We pay relatively high taxes, and in return we get a massively oversized military industrial complex. We get roads tunnels & bridges, Social Security, Medicare and a legal system. Through tax credits the government picks up the tab for all our “free market” business expenses, home mortgage interest and charitable deductions. We also have the FDIC protecting our bank deposits. And the government is now basically underwriting our entire banking and investment system. The list of “wealth redistributionist” policies already in place is endless. In fact, the only thing the US government doesn’t have a hand in is providing health care for everyone.

Of course, in the current election cycle, opposing all of the above is considered “patriotic.”

In the McCain on the right…what is that to the left of his tie?

“what is that to the left of his tie?”

    A fist.

I don’t think it gets up that high for Senator McCain. Not right up there.

It is indeed a hand curled up into a fist. Not sure if the real life Senator’s injuries permit his hand to go there, but in a cartoon, one can put anything anywhere one wishes.

Nobody ever says a word about using money raised through levying taxes to pay for things used by one and all like roads, water systems, sewer and waste processing systems, public schools, law enforcement, fire protection, government services, parks, museums, libraries, airports, and national defense. When it is proposed that there should be a right to healthcare for our bodies, suddenly people start screaming that’s socialism. Hey, my well-being is more important to me than an interstate highway connecting Cleveland to Tampa, but I’m okay with having both. Let’s hear these same people complain when they lose their jobs and suddenly they have no insurance coverage. They better pray they don’t get sick or get old.
