Bomb Squad

President Obama certainly has his work cut out for him. I realize in this drawing that seeing as the bombs are “ticking” I could have drawn the cartoon sticks-of-dynamite-with-a-clock-taped-to-them type bombs, but they just didn’t look as visually effective in the context of a “team” y’know? Plus regular dropped-out-of-WW2-plane looking bombs are much easier to draw when you’re ten minutes past deadline (there were a few distractions at the office yesterday.)

Two points today:
1. Haven’t several of the bombs have already exploded on us?
2. I get the ticking bomb reference; but “Team of Rivals” seems to be incorrectly used. Team of Rivals is the name of Doris Kearns Goodwin’s book about Lincoln’s Cabinet which was comprised of former rivals for the Presidency. How are the bombs supposed to be Obama’s Team of Rivals? Obama’s “Team of Rivals” would be Hillary, Richardson, etc who sought the Democratic nomination for President. You’ve mixed metaphors.
1. Not on Obama they haven’t.
2. With all due respect, you have got to be kidding me. The bombs are competing for Obama’s attention (rivals). “Team of rivals” is a term that is now front and center in the political lexicon. As a cartoonist one can use it, twist it, distort it or otherwise play with it however one chooses. You might want to loosen up on the rigid and literalist interpretation of cartoons there, my friend.
Sorry, Matt, I can’t agree.
The bombs have already exploded—Obama’s just on his way in to try to clean up the mess.
I read your cartoon to imply that the “bombs” were Obama’s Team; comprised of rivals, which is how the phrase is usually used.
I’ll try harder to understand.
Obviously, I “misunderestimated” what was meant.
