The bailouts were ostensibly used to pay rich bankers’ bonuses, and not to stabilize the banking sector or the economy. To be fair neither party seems to be able to give up its old ways, but the one-trick-pony GOP is now holding out in the stimulus package for more tax cuts tilted toward the wealthiest among us (you know, like the bankers who got huge bonuses courtesy of you and I.)
Don’t get me wrong – I’d love a tax cut, but I think this gargantuan mess requires a somewhat more complex approach.

Brilliant Matt!
The lack of accountability on ANYONE’S part is appalling. I spent a large part of last week spitting out my drink every time I heard a quote from a bank CEO saying we had no rights and no reasonable expectations concerning oversight of the Billions we gave them.
I propose midnight trains full of CEOs to razor-wired camps in the Nevada desert.
Neither side can give up their old ways because both “sides” are beholden to the same interests, and actually differ in very insignificant ways. The myth that we actually HAVE two parties that are significantly different is perpetuated by these very parties only to create the illusion of choice. Too bad we don’t have more Ralph Naders, Noam Chomskys, etc.
I second, Lalas!
And The congressmen and senators (demorats) who took payoffs and “ legal bribes” in the form of 1% mortgages and campaign donations: CHRIS DOTT BARNEY (w h o r e house) FRANK. And the Texas rep. Black female who throw in the race card when the Republicans tried to question FANNIE AND FREDDIE. WE SHOULD IGNORE THEM RIGHT> Right it’s the time of CHANGE>
Sean—We in Minneapolis have taken a step that direction. Voter referendum instituted Instant Runoff Voting for city elections. Hopefully it will allow more 3rd party participation. It will help in a way that Nader never could because he was jumping past all those rungs on the ladder and going straight for POTUS. Any viable 3rd party has to start locally and grow. If enough cities get IRV then sooner or later we could get it at the federal level. I know it would have helped us during our Senate recount (which may NEVER end).
Lalas- yes, but Nader knew he wasn’t going to be elected. His campaigns were more to bring attention to the very issue you point out, so that such 3rd parties would take root and grow – so that people would see the need for them. Unfortunately the “2” major parties blocked him every step of the way.
