If malleable Congressional Democrats’ capitulation to the notion that our maximum security prisons can’t contain ex-Gitmo prisoners is based on reality, then how come we don’t just ship all our violent criminals off to Gitmo? The reason, according to statistics, is not a single prisoner has escaped from a US maximum security (“Super Max”) jail. So what gives, Congressional Dems?

Terrorists don’t have the same rights as criminal defendants in the US. And they should not (more on that below). These guys were not arrested by police, who are trained and have protocols for gathering evidence with the intent to present a case in court under due process and rules of evidence. The terrorists were usually captured on a battlefield by soldiers. No warrants, no Miranda warnings, no probable cause. To put them into our criminal justice system thus gives them an enormous advantage, as most evidence will be excluded.
Those who we call terrorists have been called, under other circumstances, guerrillas, irregulars, saboteurs, what have you. This is because they do not belong to a recognized national army and do not wear uniforms. Traditionally they do not have rights equivalent to POW’s much less criminal defendants; they were usually subject to summary execution after a brief military tribunal. Their leftist sympathizers in this country, by legal chicanery, have leap-frogged the rights of terrorists above POW’s to those of criminal defendants.
Finally, the Democrats have no one to blame but themselves. For 8 years they have undermined the war effort and Gitmo for nothing but the cheapest partisan advantage. Now that they are in power and actually have to walk-the-walk, have to keep this country safe, they are finding that it isn’t as easy as bombastic partisan rhetoric, and that Bush and company were not all wrong. So their discomfort with the Gitmo issue is inherent in that issue; no one wants these guys in the US, even mixing with the normal prisoners; just look at the mooks that got arrested today for trying to bomb temples – they became radicalized in prison.
As i said before Obama is just another politician saying
what ever people want to hear to get elected. Once in the
position everything changes. I think he’s doing the right
thing but it’s a total reversal to what he said in his campaign. Change we need now? still looks like Bush to me.
” yes we can” change our mind and go back on our word!!!!!
(Ahem!) The Gitmo prisoners are alleged terrorists at best; all we have is GWB’s word for it—this being the guy who lied to the country for the past 8 years. Hell, they haven’t even been indicted.
As I remember from my civics classes, you are not a <> until you have been tried and convicted. Also, you cannot (presumably) be imprisoned unless you have been arraigned/indicted.
...but, the US Constitution is soooo 18th Century!

Way to miss the point, jp. They should not be in the criminal justice system at all. Read my post above, they should not even be considered POWs.
What’s that got to do with Obama lying JP? I’m still waiting
for this dirt bag to get us out of Iraq. No excuses. We still have people dying over there. Funny since Obama got in though how we are still at war but i don’t see any left wing looney tunes protesting anymore.
Bulldog—-
It took GWBush 8 years to get us mired into Iraq and you’re critical of Obama’s failure to get us out in 110 days?? That’s some deep thinking you’ve got there, my friend.
Gitmo is a mine field to be sure. It is not so much the actual prison that causes me distress, it is what the perception of that prison is to the world and its obvious evidence that we abandoned our principles to create it that does.
Topgunner:
Obama has the power to pull us out now. Whether it be now or in 16 months the place will fall apart anyway so why waste more American lives? Besides the knucklhead has already said even after a pullout he’s still going to leave
at least 35,000 troops there. Some pullout. I wish i could
make excuses but i would be fired. Can we say the same thing
for our useless politicians?
As we see right now, in the incredibly naive & inept “Newburgh 5” wannabe terror cell, the presence of a credible Islamic guru or mentor in the American prisons is H I G H L Y undesirable. These 5 idiots wanted to impress their Islamic tutors, by blowing up Jewish synagogues, and American warplanes.
Any ex-Jihadist terror combatant injected into the American prison system from Gitmo will act as a magnet, around whose prestige and glamour more of these converts will gravitate, turning our prisons into eventual Jihad factories.
T H A T ….is why we need Guantanamo.
I consider Obama incredibly lightweight. His decision on this was very unexpected. Maybe he is growing up right in the Oval Office.
I see so many political dupes, spouting the bombast of their exploiters, as if it were a thought they had by themselves.
Obama won the election. You grafitti sprayers can go away now, until 2012.
