Apple Thief

May
27

In order to regain power one day, so they can resume nominating simmering right-wing cranks to the Supreme Court, the GOP has to court the Hispanic vote. In a cynical world Judge Sotomayor’s historic nomination to the Supreme Court could be considered a tip of the hat to the Hispanic vote on the part of Obama.
Even though there is nothing in her considerable judicial record that would indicate she is an ideologue or liberal activist, the welcoming party Republicans have in mind for her would be considered the opposite of courting the Hispanic vote.

It’s amazing how everything in this country is about race.
The only reason this woman was appointed was because she is
a hispanic female. This was just to make another ridiculous historic statement and Obama’s way of thanking the Hispanic community for voting for him and to secure future votes for the Demorats. We are more segregated now than ever before
and it will stay that way. So much for E PLURIBUS UNUM which is what made this country great. The greatness of
America is gone and is only a shell of what it used to be.
How sad. Both parties have ruined it.PC is sinking us and pulling the nation apart rather than bringing it together.

Even though there is nothing in her considerable judicial record that would indicate she is an ideologue or liberal activist, the welcoming party Republicans have in mind for her would be considered the opposite of courting the Hispanic vote.

Mat have you been drinking? Not a Ideologue? shen is a raceist and sexist.

    she said

A Hispanic woman can out think a white male.
that is not Sexist and racist?

THE DEMORATS WENT AFTER ALBERTO GONZALAS AND THE HISPANIC JUDGE PRES BUSH TRIED TO APPOINT TO THE DICTRIC COURT
SO HISPANIC BACKGROUND IS FAIR GAME.

  3. BULLDOG

Perfect point Marinadog. Those statements she made concerning Latina women and white men are a complete racist
disgrace. If you are non white you can make all the racist
remarks you want but god forbid if it was a white male mouthing off about Latina women the media would be all over
it. You didn’t hear much about this though did you? It seems Obama loves surrounding himself with people who do not like white’s. First his preacher and now this racist
Hispanic. No one can deny this yet it seems acceptable.
What a joke this country has become.

  4. Lalas

We went after Gonzales because he is absolute scum. I think it had no Hispanic backlash because they know he is scum too. Estrada was well established as a fringe radical as well, so no love lost there either.

  5. AJ

Lalas, care to back up your claims about Gonzalez? Why is he scum? Because he fired a few attorney generals? Your boy Clinton fired every single AG when he took office in 1993 and nobody seemed to care. There’s no other explanation for that other than pure partisanship.

Matt, how is it not cynical to nominate a Latina to the high court because you want to win votes? Is your opinion of the Hispanic people in this country so low that you automatically assume they will accept the DNC talking points of Republican “racism” as the main reason for their opposition to her? I am pretty confident the people in this country, regardless of ethnicity, can understand the fallacy of allowing a justice who will rule by “empathy” rather than the rule of law onto the Supreme Court. Justice is supposed to be blind, not an arbiter ofpolitical correctness.

  6. Soto

    Pure Red/Blue Bullsh*t.

If you want a healthy nation, you have to let those actually living there, have a proxy in the halls of power.

If there were no Spanish people, Sotomayor would not have been picked. This is a conspiracy?

    I think not.

The Supreme Judge’s chair has often mellowed the attitudes of those occupying it. Let’s see if Ms. Sotomayor stays a “Spanish Booster Only”...

    Or grows into the job.

  7. bashea

    BULLDOG, MARINADOG, AJ:

Did you hear? Frank Becerra passed away. He was a good friend, kind, warm, and encouraging, and probably open-minded, tolerant, just, and empathetic…or as you call them—a left-wing nut job.

Now, let Frank have it for being a good human being!

  8. BULLDOG

Soto do you find her comment relating to white males as
offensive or not? If a white male had said this he would be asked to withdraw. We’ll see if she is a spanish booster or not but we do know she is anti white male. Pretty scary
    for a supreme court judge.

Bashea i never knew Frank so i can’t make any comments but
if Matt Davies says he was a good person i believe it regardless of his politics. I never said that left wing liberals are bad people i just don’t agree with them nor do
i agree with the far right. I’m sure they are fine people i just don’t agree with their politics. I think you are a bit
confused with this. I get along with all walks of life and
have very liberal friends who i have civilzed debates with all the time. They are close friends of mine but i do not agree with their political view points and they don’t agree
with mine. We still think of each other though as good people. I don’t know any other way to explain it. Have a nice weekend.

  9. bashea

    BullDog: “i never knew Frank so i can’t make any comments… ”

You don’t know Barack Obama either, but you called him a “dirtbag” for not pulling our troops out if Iraq in his first week of office. Yet for the 6 years our troops were stuck in that cesspool during the Bush monarchy, not a peep from BullDog. You mouth must have been full of Dick (Cheney).

Your biased hypocrisy renders any of your opinions worthless.

You have a nice weekend too, BullDog. What’s on your to-do list? Burn down a negro church? Beat up a gay guy? Scream at some girl trying to get into a women’s clinic for a checkup? Write some Jew jokes?

  10. bashea

    ”...our troops out if Iraq…”

    ”...our troops out OF Iraq…”

Come on, Matt, where’s that grammar checker?

  11. bashea

    “You mouth…”

    “YOUR mouth…”

Man, I think Fox News has hacked this site.

  12. BULLDOG

As i just said before bashea it’s Obama’s politics i don’t agree with not who he is as a person but you’re to ignorant
and way to big of an asshole to understand this. Seems like your blood is boiling bashea. You sound like an angry black
person who will defend our half black half white president to the end no matter what. There is no reasoning with you.
Women’s clinic? I’m pro choice!! Oh, i’m out of Jew jokes
so i guess i’ll just burn down a negro(ancient word) church. Maybe some day you’ll stop hiding behind your key board and we’ll have a face to face civilized discussion
but i’m afraid you are not capable of it.

  13. soto

I think Matt’s editors should start deleting the really bad comments.

  14. AJ

Left-wing “nut job” or not, I’m sure he was a good man if Matt says so. Some things transcend politics. My condolences Matt.

Whether it’s your or your editor’s idea, we do appreciate the forum to vent our views against your cartoons and we respect you for opening this forum to us and for putting your work up to scrutiny as you do.

  15. BULLDOG

Soto i tried to extend the non violent olive branch to bashea in my other post but i was attacked anyway so all i
did was reciprocate. You never answered my question about the judges comments?

  16. Matt Davies

Soto – I really prefer to leave comments alone. My editors just want to keep some of the more colorful language out (I personally don’t mind it) but as far as content of opinion, it is a free speech zone.

AJ – I love seeing alternate viewpoints, and appreciate your participation. I understand implicitly that my cartoons represent ideas that don’t jibe with some people, and if they stimulate debate and force people who oppose me to think through and state their own opinions, I can’t see a bad side.

  17. John

    Far be it for me to say what the president is thinking, but is adding one voice from the latina community to the high court have to be considered political pandering? I have noticed over the years that women actually do think different. Not better, not worse, but definitely not the way I do. I would guess the same thing is true of someone from a different cultural background;

If adding another, new perspective to the court gives the president votes he might not have had, does that mean he should not open the eyes of the court to different backgrounds? Personally, I would have liked to see an Ivy-league WASP like myself be nominated, because we seem to be pretty thin on the ground at this point.
