I’ve done countless cartoons over the years extolling the need for fairness in health coverage (and more importantly, making fun of those that perplexingly paint an insurance conglomerate monopoly as “the free market”.) At this stage, it would be two-faced and cynical of me to not positively acknowledge what looks like an actual possibility of some progress in the march towards some semblance of health care sanity.
Of course, I did manage to do that in my usual snarky way, so as not to upset, puzzle and discombobulate my readers too much. Apologies to space romantics, rocketship pilots and Scott Stantis alike. That said, I find it very cool that there are a bunch of US flags waving on the surface of the moon.

Mat as usual you are not being honest with all the facts.
1.Not every American will be eligible, at the start to get coverage. So what is this with all the uninsured?
2.Name one government agency that works well. THE POST OFFICE? DMV??? MEDICARE?
3.You will have a government agency making decisions on weather or not we should spend money to keep old people (over 65) alive.
4.Barry’s Corrupt Chicago mob that runs the white house as a top staff member, A doctor (brother of another staff member) who has written often about the need to “ Cull” the flock. Letting old people die. Disabled die or not give them medical aid. If you have mental condition you will not be able to get medical treatment (a heart attack) .He also calls for limiting births, forced abortions.
5.We will keep murders and terrorist alive; we will give treatment to illegal aliens but not our own old people?
6.The funding for this power grab is impossible with out massive taxes on everyone. People making over $ 1,000,000 will be taxed at $ 7,000 that will not raise enough. Even if they tax you at the state run media 95% they would not have enough.
7.Drug companies will stop making new drugs because there is no money to be made and money to be lost in doing so.
8.As long as 51 % of the voters pay little to no taxes and get all they need “ FREE” the 49 % of us that work will pay. And the Demorats will keep power.
Matt,
Thanks for the nod to my space-geekness. Exploration is what we do. This should not be restricted in definition only to external physical goals. Internal exploration of ideas and solutions is just as important and, I might argue, intrinsic to our human nature.
That being said, while you and I have long and engaging conversations on Health Care I HATE the plans being put forward by the Democrats in both the House and the Senate. These plans would put an onerous burden on our economy and our children. (As it stands now Social Security is going to demand that two-and-a-half young people support one of us geezers. That’s just plain immoral).
I trust the conversation isn’t over on Health Care and another omnibus bill that no legislator has actually read, gets passed. That would be a large step backwards.

Scott, social security ? That well dried up decades ago. from previous administrations. the cause. Wellfare which should be turned to work fare. make em work or dont pay.
Healthcare, there wont be anyone solution but the one solution should be that it isnt fare to give illegals a free ride and not the americans that are citizens. That inequity alone divides everyone…
Also, The insurance company shouldnt dictate what you need, thats a doctor’s job. If you cant trust the doctor then get a new one.
Why is everyone so black and white on this subject? It is entirely possible to have government funded healthcare for those who are in need AND private insurance / healthcare for those who choose not to use the national health system. I just wish that the plan was that we all share the financial burden equally. The “tax the wealthy” strategy is good for publicity but in practice it doesn’t work. The wealthy are the economic engine. Just like companies that cut their sales representatives’ commission percentage because they are performing so well that the company starts to think the reps are “making too much money”. The sales rep loses their motivation and stops performing. Now the company not only doesn’t have the extra commission it took back but it doesn’t have the other revenue either. Great strategy. Unfortunately, the same strategy is being employed to finance healthcare…
Let us note that the man leading the charge for universal health care coverage (Obama) is the same man who twice voted against the Born Alive Protection Act while he was a member of the Illinois state senate. The impetus for this bill was the case of a Down Syndrome child being born alive after a botched abortion attempt and then left to die alone in a supply closet, without medical treatment. This man hardly has the moral authority to paint any opposition to his “universal” health care scheme as “uncompassionate”.
it’s just a sign. how expensive can it be?
