Only a suburban turd would write and draw such a piece of cow-dunk.

The hunter in Mr. Davies’ “Oh-So-Euro” cartoon ought to have a copy of the second amendment sticking out of his pocket….NOT a checkbook.

Please never forget that NRA is not a “Special Interest” group, but is in reality a “Protect the U.S. Constitution” group. That’s your little U.S. Civics lesson for today, Matt.

And by the way, I personally own no firearms.
(I do have 3 BB guns, 2 of them working).

I’d have to agree that most of the anti-NRA and anti-gun hysteria comes from suburbia. Most of the critics know very little about the NRA or its members. I’ve been a lifelong member, never owned a handgun and have no desire to own one. So, I have no concealed weapons. Many other members of the NRA do not own handguns.

I do own rifles and shotguns, which are used for hunting and target shooting, and could be used to protect my family. One rifle I own, by vitue of counter-intuitve gun laws, would be classified as an “assault weapon” if I were to bolt on some attachments which in no way would change the shooting characteristics of the gun.

The NRA is about so much more than handguns and legislation. They are a leader in hunting and firearms safety training, education and training of children, police safety and shorting sports.

George Stephanopoulos summed it up this way: “Let me make one small vote for the NRA. They’re good citizens. They call their Congressmen. They write. They vote. They contribute. And they get what they want over time.”

I guess these truths just drive Matt Davies and his like crazy.

I think what Matt Davies and his “like” as you put it, are offended by is not the NRA and what they stand for, so to say, but the fact that they are using their clout to try and sway votes. The whole, “We’ll be keeping tally of who votes for or against Sotomayer” thing is just bullying. That’s what I have a problem with. Don’t bully people to get “your” way…

Trying to pigeonhole people who take issue with unfettered gun access is impossible. Frankly, I am opposed to guns because as a boy, I had a friend that accidentally shot his ten year old brother in the face with a shotgun. He was killed instantly. And yes, that happened in “oh-so-Euro” England.

What I have had trouble digesting over the years (and it still haunts me) is that despite the fact it was a horrific accident, that damn gun did exactly what it was designed to do.

I just don’t get why the gun folks don’t understand that their hobby makes others nervous. And instead of seeking to understand and reach out to people who are uncomfortable with their hobby, gun aficionados and the NRA villify, ridicule and steamroll them.

I am not an advocate of banning guns (I don’t think about them much at all, really) – Constitutional cherry-picking is off the table as far as I am concerned. But I wish the NRA wouldn’t push bills like the one that was defeated this week wherein they try to foist extraordinary rights on a self-chosen group, based on their geography. (The interstate concealed-carry rights bill.) Why would gun owners in Vermont where lax rules allow concealed carrying, be allowed to carry concealed weapons in NY, where NY gun owners aren’t allowed to?

    Matt,
I’m very sorry you have been traumatized by a gun accident. The NRA has been a leader in preventing these types of accidents. You didnt give many details, but you blame the gun. This is a link to another accident, and using you logic, “that fork did exactly what it was designed to do”:

For Goldstinker: It’s all about power here in the US. Do you deny that Nancy Pelosi can bully her way through a health care bill? It works for you one way and when it works against your “like”, its bullying.

    You are both hypocritical.

Please don’t lump me in to being a person who likes either side. I am not a democrat or a republican. I think there are flaws in both parties. I do not agree with the party system because you should decide on the issue at hand, not because your party said…. You shouldn’t make rash judgments about people just because of one statement. I DO NOT LIKE Nancy Pelosi, your right, she is a bully too. I just think that anyone who threatens people to get their agenda served is a bully. I guess that means I think all politicians are bullies (and that statement would be true). I think we as a human race need to do more to help each other, rather than try to push people around.
Back to the issue at hand. Don’t get me wrong, I do support the NRA for the most part. I also think that the second amendment was more for a militia type though. It can be interpreted more than one way. Only the founding fathers know exactly what they meant when they wrote it and none of them are here to explain. I believe in “democracy” meaning that if the majority of the people believe that we have the right to bear arms, than we have the right to bear arms. I just don’t think we need to resort to being a bully or coercion in order for it to happen.
