Govt. Cuts

If I were you, I might question my use of metaphors here, but I honestly just felt like drawing a stupid scarlet pimpernel type guy. Okay – got that off my chest.
Now, Rob Astorino just got elected to run Westchester County. He ousted twelve-year incumbent Andy Spano, for which he should be congratulated. Astorino (who is alarmingly, approximately my age) was elected ostensibly to cut the crushingly high property tax levels in Westchester. Problem is, it’s not an office that can really have much effect on tax rates. In the many conversations I had with Andy Spano, he complained like a stuck record of having his hands tied by “unfunded mandates” from Albany. Add to that the fact Astorino chose a political insider with close ties to major building interests – including Trump and Cappelli – to run his transition team, and it might appear that breathtaking amounts of change are, sadly, less than likely. Especially as the things that a County Executive can cut to reduce taxes, like services, are likely to also cause a blistering public outcry if touched.

Matt the reason King Andy was sent packing along with The Corrupt NJ Gov was they are out of touch with the people and believe that they are entitled and the amount of entitled to car service and $ 1000 a month cell phone service Oh wait your Rag reported all these things and then turned around and told us King Andy was a great guy…... Could it be that Playland slush fund and the money payoff in advertising to your RAG effects your and Herb the racist writing on the editorial page
Rob Astorino was the only one with recognizability, and some prior media connection with the County Exec race. I really don’t think anyone else could have done as well.
Your compadre Phil Reisman has an old (10/20) article you might peruse, about how Erie county just might be the model he’s using.

Mr. Rob can’t change the world, but he can at least do what Erie county’s Chris Collins did. Who knows, maybe he can even get a few affordable housing units out of Capelli et. al.
Spano’s geriatric thinking would have prevented any solutions of any kind, forever.
Good riddance.
Matt,
I loved your cartoon on The Translator, spot on. Insightful and I laughed out loud.
Keep on,
