Playing catch up from my few days off last week, I was fairly startled to read about an openly racist candidate named Jim Russell who is running against Nita Lowey in the 18th congressional District. His campaign manager was quick to point out that Russell’s written opinions on the unsuitability of racial interbreeding and the Jewish plot to take over the world were a distraction from the pressing issues before us.
Informative to witness, in a political season that has seen the GOP machine have to politely stomach ballot fruit cakes like Carl Paladino and Christine O’Donnell, that this was where the Republicans drew the line and publicly ditched a bizarre candidate.
